To help you get a jump start on your research, you will find the questions we are continually asked below. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to call or send a web request, so that we can send a Pet Gal over for a $15 Meet & Greet to answer all your questions in person.

Most Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started with The Pet Gal?
The first thing you need to do is complete our new client form. If you are interested in pet sitting, let us know your travel dates and when you will need visits. For daily dog walk clients, please indicate what days of the week and time you would like your dog walker to come each week. Once we receive your email we will schedule a Free Meet & Greet Visit to meet you and your pets. We will return all calls and emails within 24 hours, Monday – Saturday. You will also need to create a client profile and pet profiles with our industry-leading scheduling software, Time To Pet.
What is a Pet Sitter?
A Pet Sitter is a pet care professional hired to come to your home to take care of your pets. The Pet Gal only hires employees that meet our high standards; all sitters must pass a criminal background check, get Pet CPR / First Aid Certified, and continually attend animal training and behavior classes. Additionally, most sitters have college degrees, are veterinary technicians or animal trainers, and volunteer with animal rescue groups.
What pets do you care for?
We care for all domestic pets, including dogs, cats, birds, fish, guinea pigs, rabbits, mice, reptiles, chinchillas, even worms. We also provide horse and farm visits.
Where is your boarding facility?
We are NOT a boarding facility. We are an in-home professional pet sitting company, which means we take care of your pets in the comfort of your own home. Our Headquarters is located in Round Rock, Texas. Our pet sitters live with-in a five (5) mile radius of your home to provide superior local coverage.
I had a bad experience with my last pet sitter. Will The Pet Gal provide better service?
We have heard this question time and again. The answer is, we earned our reputation as the most respected locally-owned pet sitting company by providing diamond level customer service one client at a time. We go the extra mile to hire the best pet sitters, provide industry-leading scheduling software, and provide the care your pets deserve so you can go guilt-free. For over ten years, we have maintained an excellent rating on Google, Yelp. We have kept our reputation and clients not because we are perfect, but because we love our pet clients, and if our service was not right, we make it right.
How do you access my house?
The Pet Gal does not take possession of client keys. Our Pet Gal employees will access your house using keys stored in a lockbox(a) or using an electronic key(b).

(a) We recommend Shurlock lockboxes that can be purchased from The Pet Gal for $23.00 plus tax.

(b) If the client uses electronic locks, key fobs, and garage code access, keys must be hidden on the property or with neighbors in case of power outages or low battery issues.

Pet Sitting Questions

How many visits a day do I need for my pets?
You must decide what is right for you and your pets. For inside dogs, we do a minimum of two (2) visits per day and as many as five (5) visits per day. Most people request three visits each day. It depends on your pet’s needs and your comfort level. Outside pets require a minimum of one (1) visit a day. Crated and confined dogs require a minimum of three (3) visits a day, (2) thirty-minute visits, and (1) 15-minute visit. For cats, we do a minimum of one (1) visit, every-other-day.
How many pets are included in your base prices?
All of our prices have been adjusted to include care for one (1) pet. The Pet Gal never charges extra for administering pills, registration fees, weekend visits, or house sitting tasks. Our initial Meet & Greet is always FREE! These factors make our prices the most competitive in the area.
Why is your service better than an independent pet sitter?
Most independent pet sitters do not offer the reliability, coverage, or security you get when hiring a professional pet sitting company. With The Pet Gal, you are getting a professional company, excellent customer service, a team of experienced, vetted, and background checked pet sitters, and peace of mind that we are insured and bonded.
Can you administer medications?
Yes. We can administer oral medications, thyroid creams, and ointments. We do charge a fee for Sub-q fluids and insulin injections. Several of our Pet Gals and Guys are vet techs, and all are Pet CPR/First Aid Certified.
Will the same pet sitter come to my home for all visits?
Our goal is to have a primary sitter for each client. It’s important for the sitter to develop a relationship with our clients and a bond with their pets. However, if an emergency or your primary sitter is booked, we will send a backup sitter in their place. We are always more than happy to set up another Free Meet & Greet Visit with the backup sitter.

Dog Walking Questions

What is the importance of mid-day dog walks?
A well-exercised dog is a happy dog and is, therefore, less likely to display destructive behavior in your home. Also, providing a refreshing break during the day can help alleviate separation anxiety and provide a much needed potty break. If you are gone most of the day, that means your pet is home all alone, and a mid-day walk provides that much-needed attention when you are away.
My dog doesn't walk well on a leash. Can you leash train him?
We can certainly help train them to walk properly using various walking tools (Easy Walk harnesses, dog backpacks, treats, Gentle Leaders, etc.) that all provide positive reinforcement training. We’ve found most dogs that are learning to walk properly on a leash do best when on a consistent walking schedule of at least three days a week.
What time of day will you walk my dog?
We typically will walk dogs mid-day between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. We do make exceptions during the hot summer months and start earlier in the day, so your dog isn’t walking on the hot pavement.
Are there any collars you don't like to work with?
Our philosophy at The Pet Gal is positive reinforcement. We will not use a choke, shock, prong, or bark collars. We will gladly suggest an alternative collar that best suits your dogs’ personality, walking style, and behavior.
Do you do pack walks?
No. We provide individual attention and care to each of our pet clients.
What do you do if it's raining?
We’re like the postman; rain or shine, sleet or snow, we’ll be there. We will not walk if there is a torrential downpour, hail, or dangerous lightning. We don’t want to put your dog or our walkers at risk. We also have to take into consideration how your dog feels about walking in the rain. Some love it; others would rather stay indoors.

Company Questions

What is your hiring process?
To become an employee at The Pet Gal, you must go through a rigorous interview process, including passing a criminal background check, one-on-one training, and supervised visits before being allowed to take on visits alone. Once hired, every Pet Gal and Guy must maintain a Pet First Aid/CPR certification renewed every year and continued dog behavior training.
Are you insured?
Yes, we are insured through the Kennel Pro, and we carry a 2 Million Dollar policy. During our initial interview, we will show you copies of our Policies.
Do you accommodate last minute requests?
We strive to accommodate last-minute requests, however; our pet sitters’ schedules book up way in advance, so we cannot guarantee their availability. We do charge a last-minute request fee to compensate sitters for rearranging their schedules.

Last Minute Request Fees

  • Same Day: $25
  • Next Day: $15

For new clients we require one (1) weeks’ notice to allow time to set up a FREE Meet & Greet Visit and work them into our schedule. We book up quickly in the summer and on all major holidays, so try to book in advance! During busy times, we have been booked 2-3 months in advance.

Do you charge holiday fees?
An additional holiday charge of time-and-a-half will apply for all visits made on the following holidays: New Year’s Eve, New Years Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
Can I book appointments or make schedule changes directly with my pet sitter?
No. All appointments and schedule changes MUST be made by logging into our client portal. Additionally, if you do not make reservations through the office, then neither you nor the pet sitter will have the protection of our liability insurance, and no guarantee the visit will be scheduled.
How will I know if my Pet Gal showed up?
We only hire responsible pet professionals. We are EXTREMELY picky about who works for The Pet Gal. To help our sitters do their job properly, we use industry-leading scheduling software that notifies you when your sitter has arrived; shows visit start and end times; tracks walks and transportation services with GPS. Once the visit is completed, the sitter sends an update, including a visit report card and photos for you to review.
Should I tip my Pet Gal?
Treat our service as you would any other service. Pet sitters are thrilled to receive monetary appreciation for an outstanding effort. Some clients tip only at Christmas, some a few dollars each visit, some give gifts, or just do nice things for the pet sitter. Nothing is ever expected, but it is certainly appreciated.
How am I billed?
The Pet Gal accepts all major credit cards and debit cards. Invoices are due on the first day of service; however, you may choose to pay partial payments or the total anytime before using the portal or app. If we have not received payment by the first day of service, we will automatically charge your card. If a client requests to extend service, they guarantee payment at the same rate for all services at the time of requested change. Although not required, if you wish to tip your IC, you may select the amount when paying your invoice.
